Ok, so here we go. I'm not really a blog person. I've read a lot since I've decided to get married, but other than that, I'm not really interested. I'm about 5 months into my wedding planning, and it's hard. It's hard because I don't live in Chicago or New York City or LA... or even close to those places. I live in the UP of Michigan. This isn't to say that I don't like the UP. It's a great place and I love it. It's beautiful and I'm so excited to get married here, but it's so hard to find UNIQUE places to get married.
I don't want a conventional wedding. I want something different that people (or at least I) will remember. I don't want roses or flower centerpieces or anything like that. Everyone I know from this area has either gotten married in a church or at the Presque Isle bandshell or gazebo. These are great and pretty places:
St. Peter's Cathedral
Presque Isle Bandshell
Presque Isle Gazebo
But they're not us, or they won't fit us. I want to be outside.
So here it is. The official place we are getting married. There is very limited flat ground here, so we had to be at Presque Isle, but we're getting married by the pavillion
We're hopefully going across the street right by Lake Superior, but there's also a field next door. Either one will be great. Then afterward we're going to have a mini reception meet and greet type party with some finger foods catered by The Rice Paddy. YUM!
Here's the inside of the building. Pretty, yes?
So there you have it. After a long search and a refusal to get married at Presque Isle, I am getting married at Presque Isle. It's going to be great.
On a side note, I did talk to a few bed and breakfasts and rental cabins around Au Train. Some of them are very willing to help, so don't be afraid to email them. They like small weddings, though, and mine is around 100 people. Also, Bay Cliff does not do weddings unless you went to Bay Cliff or worked there. I was a little angry when I found that out, but they've had a lot of problems with their no alcohol no smoking policy.
But how pretty would that be?
That's ok. I've got a great spot. Are there any places you've found to get married? Let me know!
